Volunteers with the USSFCU Foundation visited Dorothy Hamm Middle School in Arlington, VA to educate seventh- and eighth-grade students on financial management skills in order to empower them with the knowledge to make smart every day financial decisions.

Across two days, our membership development and marketing engagement teams presented to 137 students across six classes on the foundations and importance of budgeting, saving and investing, managing credit and debt, and setting SMART* financial goals. Students actively partook in these classroom workshops by providing their own real world examples of SMART budget goals, asking questions on different savings strategies, and learned about the different financial accounts they may encounter as adults such as checking accounts, savings and money markets, and 401(k) and IRAs.

Along with knowledge, each student received a resource folder with at-home financial literacy and career readiness materials, courtesy of our partnership with Banzai Best Life Wellness. If you are interested in scheduling a workshop with your classroom, community group, or workplace, please contact communications@ussfcu.org today.

Thank you to Mrs. Ali and Dorothy Hamm Middle School for the opportunity to discuss financial literacy with your students.
